5 Pieces of Pregnancy Advice That I Plan to Ignore

IMG_9980So y'all may know that I wasn't necessarily prepared to be pregnant but once I was, the research monster came out. At the same time I was flooded with unsolicited advice from friends, family and even strangers! As a independent thinker, I like to figure things out on my own and I like to be informed about big decisions that I make -- especially life changing ones. I was trying to find my way and wanted to know if all these expectant mother limitations are actually worth paying attention to. So in my research and in speaking with trained medical professionals I've found that most of the stuff they tell you that you can't do is still up for debate or you just totally can! So here's my 5 pieces of pregnancy advice that I'm giving a side eye to...

  1. No Coffee
For as log as I can remember I've always heard that when your pregnant you can't drink coffee. So it turns out that you CAN  have coffee when you're pregnant. However, you should reduce the amount of coffee you drink when trying to conceive and throughout your pregnancy but it does not have to be eliminated all together. I've found out that you can have 12oz a day, which is a little over a cup. If you want to get technical you can have 200mg of caffeine a day. So you could go for that grande ice coffee from starbucks every day if i wanted to without affecting your baby.2. No ShapersI actually have only heard this from a few people (my husband for one) and church mothers who touch my stomach and feel my Spanx. First of all, there is nothing wrong with wearing a shaper while pregnant. The only affect is that you might be uncomfortable.  Now, Im not talking about wearing a waist trainer, but your simple body shaper or spanx will not harm you or your baby at all.  Secondly,  I feel more comfortable with one on since my belly has grown because it holds your belly up. We all know that a shaper or Spanx is not doing aaalllllll of that anyway. I don't wear one all the time or even most of the time but If I need it I will put it on.3.  No HeelsWhoever said not to wear heels while you are pregnant is clearly a hater.  People ask me with that side eye "you're still wearing heels?' and I reply, Yes! I will be wearing heels until they don't fit anymore.  The only reason the experts say not to wear heels is that some women can become off balance while pregnant and you may fall.  If that's the case for you, please don't wear heels.  I'm not off-balance, so I will continue to wear heels.4.   No FishMost women that had been pregnant in the past 10 years the experts did say not to eat fish. Now they are saying that you NEED to eat 12oz of fish a week. How they went from no fish to 12oz is beyond me but I'm happy about the newfound research. The only limitation is to stay away from high levels mercury; no swordfish, shark, mackerel, etc.5. No Overdoing itIf I hear, "sleep now cause when He comes your life is over" one more time! I know my body and I know my limits. I don't have time to sleep the day away like my responsibilites disappeared because I got pregnant. There's a lot to be done. I keep trudging along like theres not a stowaway in my belly.Disclaimer: This post is written for enjoyment and is not implied to be medical advice. Always consult your physician or healthcare professional for personal healthcare needs.IMG_9975 IMG_9984 [showshopthepostwidget id="1878375"]
