CUT FROM A DIFFERENT CLOTHE
Inspired by the local dress codes of far-off destinations; thee perfect ensemble for the upcoming season is on my body right now! Can you say “statement piece”?! I know that I service a multiethnic audience and I myself have a multiethnic background but you don’t have to be exotic or have an African cultural background to respect and wear this trend. After all this trend is about mixing it up anyway. The thing I love about it is that while the prints may be ancient, when combined with these cuts and silhouettes the look becomes super modern. Team this skirt with a crisp white shirt, your faithful denim button down or bold print tee and get your passport out cause you are global chic, gurl!
This skirt AND crop top were both made to order by the wonderful Racheal of NGOZI “Nigerian Hippie”. Her Etsy store features dozens of customizable pieces (for all shapes and sizes) and plenty fabric options too. She is super duper quick and easy to work with (the best kind of Etsy vendor). I was extremely pleased with my experience and can’t wait for my next piece(s)!
So, the moral of this story is:
- Vibrant African prints are definitely Spring/Summer must haves.
- Like MJ said: “It doesn’t matter if you’re black or white”.
- Search no further for a source for your ethnically influenced, global-chic frocks because Nigerian Hippie has the goods and is also offering my peeps 15% off! Holla!

They cringed at the sight of plus-size girls in skinnies. Eyes rolled when we started wearing leggings. Lawd knows what they thought when we started wearing sweatpants with stilettos. And what? We wore them ANYWAY!
Ok so maybe the low inseam of these pants are a little hammertime/diaper-esque… but if wearing them is wrong, well, I guess I don’t want to be right.
While I will say no to drop crotches that dangle right above the floor, these Forever21 harem pants have an ever so slight exaggeration at the crotch. Forever 21 has so many cute harem pants right now (link below).
I personally think this slouchy silhouette is chic and extra comfy. They pair perfectly with basics and can be worn year-round. No, these are not for the faint of heart. Different trends appeal to different people, and that’s great but I will be vouging in my slouchy stylish trousers a whole lot!

IN THE NAME OF LOVE
Whether you’re going to be wined and dined this VDay, you’re single and ready to mingle, or just a planning a night out with your best girlfriends… you’re going to need an outfit!
Wanted to just share a little VDAY inspiration!
Look 1: A Special Kind of Love
I incorporated shorts into this outfit just to change it up. Taking advantage of the opportunity to turn heads and making getting dressed for this holiday a little more interesting. Shorts are the new mini skirts. Worn with a blazer, shorts become more wearable. This styling combination is instantly chic.
Look 2: Ready for Love
Little black dresses are fashion staples that every woman should have in their closet. Nothing beats a stylish black dress that can be accessorized for a glam look or just go for a simple and clean like me.
Look 3: Love Don’t Cost A Thing
I am a jumpsuit virgin. Hard to believe but this is actually the first jumpsuit I’ve ever owned. (available: F21) I’ve always loved the idea of a jumpsuit. So simple, easy and casual yet still stylish. If you’re a jumpsuit virgin, try layering it underneath a jacket… makes the look more subtle.
Hope you feel all the love you deserve tomorrow! No matter what’s in store know this: Somebody loves you, Babe and that someone is ME! Thanks for reading - Ro
AS CLEAR AS BLACK AND WHITE
I was recently approached about a collaboration with UK based plus size clothier: LOVEDROBE. I was unfamiliar with the company and was excited to see what they had to offer. As I purused their site for pieces that spoke to my fashion heart, it suddenly started beating faster when I happened upon this fab dress Black & White Blister Bodycon.
I’m just gonna say I’m in LOVE with Lovedrobe (pun intended)! This dress is everything. The contrasting colors and panel structure adds an illusional effect, flattering the figure. Also the textured fabric is stretchy and really helps smooth and shape while the high neckline and half sleeves provide a sophisticated flare. Needless to say me and this dress have many plans in the near future. It’s as clear and black and white when it comes to this look from Lovedrobe… It’s a winner!

SWEAT IT OUT
3 Ways to Wear the Sweatshirt Trend
Although often times associated with braless, lazy days, sweatshirts have gotten a makeover and seem to be here to stay… for a while at least.
There are so many sweatshirt styles out right now, so branch out beyond your basic solid-colored pullover and go for a unique print or embellishment to turn up the style factor. Think bold graphics and sweatshirts made from mixed materials. Also you can and should play with the opposite effect. This trend is all about mixing it with unexpected pieces. Try pairing sweatshirts with a pencil, circle/skater skirt or jeans and a sexy heel. You can also up the ante by adding jewels or a even button down. All three of my sweatshirts happen to be from Forever 21 (Super Awesome top is not plus…don’t limit yourself to plus section). Forever 21 is my go to for most of my super trendy items. They always get the job done without compromising style or my bank account. Casual-chic is the new chic!

Nothing else has the effect of a figure-hugging bodycon dress. Short for body conscious, bodycon dresses follow your silhouette, enhancing your shape adding a dash of instant sexiness. I know for some, tighter silhouettes can often be intimidating. However, a lot of bodycon pieces are actually pretty flattering, due to the fact that they suck you in, smoothing out your shape, especially when wearing a little concealed help (Spanx)!
Also wanted to picture another way to wear the dress to make more comfortable for many occasions. Simply wear it with a blazer/jacket to balance the look. As with anything you wear, its about adding elements to make it uniquely you.
This beautiful printed bodycon dress was sent to me for review from CORI COREN Online Boutique. I’m wearing a 2x in the dress. I love how it juusst reaches the knee. I’m 5’ 9”, tight and short not my fave combo. This dress hits me right where I like, when it comes to bodycons. The material provides plenty of textural interest and is soft and snug to the body. I found that even wearing it all day didn’t loosen the shape, and didn’t have an issue with the see-though effect that’s typical of these stretchy pieces. WHO GON ‘CHECK’ ME BOO?!
So I have kinda been having a love affair with all things plaid, checked or tartan… such a great print to incorporate into your wardrobe. Most people think preppy school girl or holiday style when it comes to these prints. However, I wanted to showcase this trend in a more chic way. In an Alicia Silverstone-esque Clueless kinda way. This plaid skirt by ASOS is the perfect multi-tasking skirt. It can be worn from day to night all season long, and in sooo many different ways. I paired mine with a structured faux-leather peplum and a simple white shirt. Side note: Layering and/or even pattern mixing make for stylishly interesting looks, when done right.

Can I just say I love a good cape! So glad that the cape is having a moment and is back on the winter coat scene in a big way! I was so ecstatic when I spotted this ultra chic moto zip cape at Zara! Yes, I was able to walk out of there with an actual piece of clothing (thank God for one size fits all)! A cape looks polished and super chic when worn over a dress or slim trousers (or leather paneled leggings, as pictured) and offers a perfect blanket to cozy up in with the winter weather. I know this may not be your typical coat and that this look is not for everyone. When it comes to capes, there is a thin line between looking like a magician and a fashion-killer. It’s all in the way you wear that thang.

OH, THE PLACES YOU’LL GO
Beauticurve’s 1 Year Blogaversary
Today is your day.
You’re off to Great Places!
You’re off and away!”
― Dr. Seuss
OMG cannot believe it’s been a year already! I never would have expected to have such an amazing 1st year! I can honestly say that this blog has been one of the best things things I’ve done.
With that said I cannot forget my instagram family (where it all started), especially Jessica Kane, CEO of Skorch Magazine who encouraged me to start the blog after seeing my early IG posts. Also, my friend Mia who showed me love by featuring me on her blog Diary of a Fatshionista and who’s post drove countless visits to my infant site. Also to my resident photographer who just so happens to be my sexy beast husband, love you and thanks for everything. Last but not least, to YOU, whether you’ve been visiting since the beginning or just arrived here today, a HUGE, FAT and MONSTROUS thanks to all of you for supporting my blog. Deepest thanks.
Beauticurve has given me a chance to share my life and style with people I’ve never met and interacted with and allowed me a platform to creatively inspire and encourage self-acceptance. So, in celebration of 1 year, there will be lots (lots meaning 1 or 2 lol) fun things in store this month!!
Looking forward to what’s to come! - XO

THE NEO TRENCH
What’s life without a great trench?? A trench coat is one of those few timeless pieces that never goes out of style. This jacket has the classic feel of a trench but is updated with an unexpected color and strategically-placed faux leather panels and trim adding a modern twist to a classic staple. True, trendy/edgy details are the exact things that can keep a piece from being timeless, but sometimes you have to live in the “fashion moment” for the love of a style story.
- Faux Leather Mixed Media Trench: By Bebe -from TJ Maxx for $59.99!! Side Note- I got this jacket in a XL and it fits like a glove (thanks to the forgiving flare).
